[07] The Color of the Invisible

Wind is an invisible element of nature, and this work seeks to usher it into the exhibition space through a subtle visual strategy. Using an RGB lighting system composed of red, green, and blue LED tubes, the installation attempts to recreate the quality of everyday indoor light in a tangible, physical form. Yet the spectral output of RGB LEDs cannot be fully absorbed by the human visual system; we perceive each color channel as distinct even while sensing their blended atmosphere as a whole.

Real-time outdoor wind-speed data—captured via Arduino and an anemometer—is continuously mapped to the RGB values, rendering a shifting rainbow palette that visualizes the wind’s movement. Thus, the unseen wind materializes in color, and viewers experience its presence through this enchanting interplay of light.

Immersed in the piece, we seem to occupy both the real and the illusory: a subtle contradiction arises between what the eye sees and the overall spatial ambience. The audience does not merely witness wind; they are enveloped in a dreamlike “chromatic wind.” The work probes the limits of perception while offering an innovative fusion of nature and technology, inviting us to re-perceive everyday phenomena that ordinarily elude sight.
